Brights wood
Submitted on: 18/03/10 by John Janman
Took a little ride down to Brights wood today (15/06/09) and thought I would post a comment about the place. The entrance was very clean and tidy with no litter at all, the grass had been cut also. As I approached a Wren was singing on my right hand side and a Speckled wood butterfly was patroling up and down the track. I went into the field and as this was only a s***t visit I walked straight across to the wooded area opposite the gate just to get an idea what was about. As I stood on the track I could hear a Common Whitethroat to my right and a Linnet over to my left and as I walked on a Blue butterfly went across my path but did not land. Further on I saw a Skipper butterfly which I think was the Large variety as it looked bigger than the types we get around the cliffs, it was on a Yellow flowered vetch. I could hear and see quite a few birds now including Greenfinch,Dunnock,Blackbird,Green woodpecker,Robin and the Wren was still singing his heart out back by the gate. I had to get back so made my way back to the gate noticing many types of plant close to the ground including vetches and some Agrimony which was in full flower, this has a very slight scent of Apricots. A final nice touch was the sound of a purring Turtle Dove, you do not see so many of these birds as you used to. I enjoyed my little trip to this out of the way place and will make a return visit to take a bit more notice of the plants there, I am no expert on these so my books will take a hammering I'm sure.
